Cast on 31 st using your favorite cast-on method.
Knit four rows (garter stitch edge).
Row 1 (RS): K3, [k2, s1wyib, k1] rep between brackets to last st, k4
Row 2 (WS): K3, p1, [p1, sl1wyif, p2] rep between brackets to last 3 st, k3
Row 3 (RS): K3, [1/2 RC, k1] rep between brackets to last 4 st, k4
Row 4 (WS): K3, p to last 3 st, k3
Row 5 (RS): Rep row 1
Row 6 (WS): Rep row 2
Row 7 (RS): K4, [k1,1/2 LC] rep between brackets to last 3 st, k3
Row 8 (WS): Rep row 4
Repeat Rows 1-8 until swatch measures 4.5 in/11.25 cm.
Knit four rows.
Bind off on next row in knit.
Wet block your swatch and pin flat until dry.
