When the air is chilly, just reach for this chill hat. This hat so lit that... well... people will probably say lots of nice things to you when you are wearing this hat. It’s a really nice beanie, in a cool colour and has fun stitches. So forget about being cool, and keep warm with your new favourite knit.

To create this beanie here are some of our suggestions:

Cast on

Use US size 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles (16 in / 40 cm length).

CO 104 stitches using your preferred cast on style. Join to work in the round, and place marker to indicate the BOR.

Rib

2x2 Rib Round 1
[k2, p2] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Next Rounds
Repeat 2x2 rib pattern until rib measures 1.75 in / 4.5 cm.

Body

Transition to US size 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles and begin the body section of the beanie as follows.

Moss Stitch Round 1
[p, k] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Moss Stitch Round 2
[p, k] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Moss Stitch Round 3
[k, p] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Moss Stitch Round 4
[k, p] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Next Rounds
Repeat 1-4 until 5.5 in / 14 cm from start of moss stitch.

Knit 1 round in stockinette stitch.

Decreases

When working the decreases, transition to double pointed needles when the stitches can no longer reach comfortably around the circular needle.

Round 1
[k11, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 2
[k10, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 3
[k9, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 4
[k8, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 5
[k7, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 6
[k6, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 7
[k5, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 8
[k4, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 9
[k3, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 10
[k2, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 11
[k, k2tog] repeat between brackets to end of round.

Round 12
Repeat k2tog to the end of round.

Finishing

Cut working yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the remaining stitches and pull the top closed tightly. Draw the working yarn through the top center of the hat (to the inside) and weave it in securely on the inside of the beanie. Weave in any remaining ends.
